Brashear JH Basketball at Green City Tournament October 16, 2008
Tigers kick off their season with a pair of losses to LaPlata.
The Brashear Lady Tigers JH basketball squad got off to a slow start allowing LaPlata to run up a 14-0 lead after the first quarter of play. Brashear bounced back in the second quarter scoring 6 while holding LaPlata to 4 points. Coming out of the locker rooms trailing 18-6 at halftime, the Lady Tigers held LaPlata to 10 2nd half points while scoring 8 of their own. LaPlata picked up the win 28-14. For Brashear, Katie Smith had 8 points, Shelby Salter scored 4, and Meredith Thomas added 2 points. LaPlata was led by Belt with 9 and Eitel with 8 points. LaPlata advances to the championship game Friday and Brashear will play in the 3rd place game.
The Tigers squad also got off to a slow start with only 2 points in the 1st quarter. Although they scored 7 in the 2nd and 7 in the third, LaPlata had already put the game away with a 17 point 1st quarter and a 39-9 halftime lead. LaPlata went on the claim the win by a final score of 59-16. For Brashear, Joseph Woods scored 6, Joe Clarkson had 4, and Hayden Housman, Nick Thomas, and Taren Treasure had 2 points each. LaPlata’s Herron had 20 points, Allen added 14, and W. Smith scored 11 points. LaPlata advances to Friday’s title game and Brashear will play for 3rd.
In other first round action, the Green City girls downed Novinger 25-11 and the Green City boys defeated Novinger 51-22.
